Project Management

Aid Programs & International Development

Donors: UK Department of International Development (DFID) & the European Commission

I’ve provided project management oversight on a portfolio of international development programs in Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa, ensuring cost effective, timely and donor-compliant project delivery. From writing bids/tenders to formulating impact evaluation frameworks, I’ve been involved in every stage of program inception and implementation.

My areas of expertise are: bid and grant writing, in-depth country-level research, risk assessment frameworks, identification and pricing of milestones and pricing of all program aspects (including detailed staffing and operational expenses), and comprehensive monthly budget forecasts for the duration of each program.

Exam Management, US Sanctions & Embargoes

Agencies: Federal Reserve, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

Exam management requires a talent for motivating and collaborating with people. I’ve coordinated workstreams, tracked targets and facilitated discussions across teams during an independent review of a Wall Street financial firm’s Compliance program. Commissioned by the Federal Reserve System, this review tested the institution’s controls and adherence to US Sanctions and Embargoes.

Writing

Technical Writing & Communication

In my work for both non-profits and corporates, I’ve always been the team’s designated storyteller. Whether detailing a project’s targeted impact or communicating program risks to government regulators, I can filter out a core message and communicate it clearly to stakeholders.

I’ve written speeches for a Member of Parliament, grants for major international development consultancies and management reports for Wall Street board members. I’ve created training documents, desktop procedures and policy frameworks for core functions and processes across governance, MI and other technical and regulatory areas. I’ve also jumped at the chance to write engaging website copy and newsletter content when the opportunity presented itself.

Journalism

I love supporting and contributing to independent media. I’ve written about international development, policy and sustainable travel for several indie publications, with more to come. From articles on the global refugee crisis to travelogues on jet skiing through the Andes, see my complete list of published work here.

Risk Management, MI & Data Analytics

I’ve worked closely with US regulators to meet anti-financial crime and compliance requirements for a major Wall Street bank, and advised business lines and corporate clients by providing subject matter expertise and guidance with regards to sanctions laws and obligations. This required extensive and ongoing risk assessment and management along with strong data analysis to back it up.

In addition to enhancing the MI already in place, I created a robust client risk framework from scratch. This enabled me to review suspicious client activity and to flag key client risks and trends to regulators.

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) & Impact Assessments

As the M&E lead, I designed and launched a research project that assessed rural access to maternal and neonatal health services in Ghana. I led data collections and interviews by engaging with community members and local health practitioners in rural areas. I monitored government programs to evaluate accountability and effective allocation of funds. I then designed trainings for government staff on good governance practices, accountability, and the sustainable implementation of projects.
